Episode Transcript

Welcome to Probably Bothered the podcast that cuts through online business myths so that you can redefine your version of success, because I believe if you aren't a little bit bothered, you probably aren't paying attention.

Holy smokes. How has it been Three weeks since our last conversation. Weeks, months. It's been three. Since our last conversation, and I'm guessing, I think, I think the last episode of season one aired in October, and this is gonna air in January. So here we go. I have had a lot of time to reflect and I'm back with a plan, a plan for my business, a plan for probably bothered and I'm gonna share all of it with you, but before I do, I need to set the stage.

It wouldn't be a probably bothered solo episode if I didn't do that. So picture this, it's the last week of December. I'm supposed to be vacationing, not like on a vacation, just not working. I'm supposed to be not working, but I spent the entire afternoon digging into a project that I'm really excited about, and now it's about five 15 in the evening.

I was about to close my computer and I thought, no, I have to have this conversation with you. So here I am sitting on the floor, my coffee table is my desk, and Huxley is snoozing on the couch next to me and we're gonna jump into it, all of it. Now, the biggest burning question that I'm sure you have as we dive into season two of probably bothered is.

is this show gonna look like? Because I told you, I told you in the last show of season one that it was going to be changing. And here's what I can promise you. One, I can promise you brutal honesty, and you'll see why that applies in a second. I have always done my best to share my. thoughts, feedback, discussion points, whatever you want to call it on this show.

Uh, I don't think that it does anybody any good if we are, you know, hiding parts of our brain as we kind of explore what this business thing looks like together. The second thing that you can expect is a new show format. What that means is that we are going to have a lot. Chats like this, like we're on FaceTime?

No, there's no camera. Like we're having a phone call. Remember those? Do you remember phone calls? I remember phone calls a lot more one-on-one time. There will still be a few guests here and there. I'm probably bothered, but they're going to be very, very, very specific to what we're talking about in the new show.

and you probably like, just tell us already, tell us what we're talking about. Uh, so here's, here's the thing. When I took this little break for a few months, I told you I was burning it all down and I had to figure out what my business is gonna look like. And I'm gonna get into that in just one second.

But this show is about to become a diary of sorts. It's going to become. Week by week live report, live feedback session of how I'm changing my business, what's working, what isn't, and how I think about my strategy, my next move, the actions that I need to take in order to meet my goals. So really, . It's one big reflection on this giant experiment I have been embarking on for the past couple of months, and it's gonna be in real time.

I hope you're excited about this because I am incredibly excited about sharing what it actually looks like to create a business strategy, follow through on that strategy, and do it in a way that. I don't think a lot of other people are doing it. Doing it in a way where I'm intentionally ignoring the advice of the masses, not the masses, that's not the right word, of a lot of those strong voices that we talked about.

You know, often on season one, I, I'm ignoring a lot of what I've heard and realizing after three years in business that a lot of what I've heard wasn't working for. And that's the important point for me. So I've created something else and I'm gonna take you guys along for the ride. So let's pick up where we left off because I burnt it all down.

I really, really did. I would say I burnt down 75% of my business. And when I say burnt it down, obviously this is a metaphor. What I did is that I let go of offers of ideas of things that I had poured hundreds of hours into because I realized that my business had gotten out of control, meaning that I no longer felt as if I could fully deliver.

On all of my ideas and offers and everything that I was putting out into the world, this podcast included. So I let go of it and I let go of what I thought my business was going to look like or really what I hoped my business was going to look like, because at the end of 2021, I thought that I would no longer be a website designer and I would be replacing that with a coaching income.

And I had to figure out, after a year of moving down that path among many others, um, I had to figure out what lessons that I learned. And what I needed to do differently to really be successful in my business. So I figured out a plan, and I'm not going to tell you the plan right now, uh, only because this is kind of more of a short and sweet intro episode to season two, but I promise an episode two, we're we are going to do a deep dive into my new plan and my new.

Now this wouldn't be an episode of, probably bothered if I didn't, and by letting you know what bothers me because I promise we're still going to have this very frank conversation on this show. And so here's what bothers me, and this kind of can tell you where my head was at while I made this new strategy.

What bothers me is that it seems like there is only one way to do. And I know that's not the case. I'm being a bit hyperbolic here. Is that a word I'm using? Hyperbole? Is hyperbolic a version of hyper? Anyway, it feels like there are a few methods to creating an offer, stacking your income, getting the word out through social media, and then rinse and repeat, and that version of business.

wasn't serving me for many, many reasons, but I think the number one reason is that I felt that in order to be a big picture thinker, to think creatively about my business, the only outlet that I had for. Was to create many, many, many offers and many new ideas. Even if they were related or not, it didn't matter, but it felt like the only thing that I could do to push the envelope was to offer something new and different.

For me, what I've realized is that's not the case because we as creative people, , we can be creative outside of just our niche. We can be creative outside of our identity as an entrepreneur. The idea of being creative doesn't just mean in how we do our client projects, how we serve our clients, how we come up with new offers.

It also can be how we think about our business, how we think about our strategy, how we ignore all of the noise that's out there. , ask the question of what would I do if I didn't know what anybody else had ever done? If I was the first person in the world, to have a website designed business, what would I do if I was the one carving out that path?

If there were no rules, if there were no examples, what would you do if you didn't have a model to. Like, forget everything you've ever known. Forget everything you've heard, how would you run your business? And so that is where my head was at as I decided to burn this all down, metaphorically, as I figured out what I wanted my business to look like and feel like.

And as I decided how I wanted this podcast to shift and change alongside of that. Because there isn't just one way to do business, right? Sometimes all of that knowledge can lend our brains to feeling a little bit stuck, a little bit like this is the only way, or some like tiny variation of this idea that I've heard.

As we wrap this episode up, the one thing that I want you to think about is if you didn't know a single thing about running a business, but you had a business to run, what would you. . All right. I'm gonna leave this episode at that very mysterious. This is a very, very mysterious ending. I know, but I promise.

In episode two, I'm going to come back and I'm going to tell you all about my business, my strategy, and where I'm at now. So if you're listening to this, you know, here's the part where I have a call to action and my call to action is this book, a call with. . One of the things I've learned over the past year is how invaluable a community is in this space, because there are people who think differently, who talk differently, who have different ideas that could benefit your business in ways that you never knew, and it all comes to light in a 30 minute coffee chat.

That changes your entire perspective. So one of my goals in my. This is a little foreshadowing, if you will, is to meet more people, to build my community and to have. More opportunities to have those incredible conversations that are mutually beneficial. So whether you are looking for a website, that would be wonderful.

Or if you were just looking to build your network partner or collaborate on some future project, book a call with me and let's. , that's my call to action. I'm excited to hear your thoughts about how season two is taking shape, and again, more will come to light in episode two, so stay tuned. I guess this is one of those, always leave them wanting more moments.

I hope you're wanting more. That's a weird way to end the show. I'm gonna leave it in because why not? See you next week
